Tariffs from the Trump Administration are set to affect key trading partners including China and Mexico, where many bikes are produced.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Tariffs put in place by the Trump Administration are affecting all kinds of industries across the U.S., including ones as local as Wersell’s Bike Shop in west Toledo.

The shop has been in business on Central Avenue for nearly 80 years, and in that time has seen its fair share of economic instability.

"I’ve been through everything," Jill Wersell, current owner of the shop and the daughter of the original owner, said in response to the current ordeal playing out between the U.S. and imported goods from other countries.

Wersell has been working at the shop for the last 41 of those years and has kept an eye on what these tariffs could mean for their stock.

While she didn’t notice any price changes on their last set of shipments, she knows some of her products will definitely be hit.

"Obviously time will tell what’s going to happen," Wersell said. "The good thing is some of the bicycles are made in Cambodia, Taiwan, Mexico, things of that nature, Most of the kids’ bikes come from China."That’s not their only Chinese product, either. E-bikes are almost exclusively made in China, and Wersell said when they put in their next order, assuming the tariffs will hold, consumers will notice."It probably would be passed on to the consumer, because obviously when you’re in business, we can’t absorb all the costs.
