The Fayetteville Recycling and Trash Collection Department is partnering with the nonprofit organization Pedal It Forward to offer a new drop-off location in Fayetteville, according to a news release from the city.

Pedal It Forward collects used bikes, repairing them if needed, then distributes them throughout Northwest Arkansas to those in need to increase access to bikes for health, transportation or recreation.

Bicycles, as well as parts and accessories, may be donated year-round from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Recycling and Trash Collection office at 1560 S. Happy Hollow Road, according to the release.

"Not only will this get more people on bicycles, which supports a more equitable and environmentally friendly transportation system, but it also will help the city reach its goal of diverting 40% of waste from the landfill," Fayetteville Environmental Educator Faebyan Whittle said.

"It is estimated that 15 million bicycles are discarded annually, many ending up in landfills. Partnerships like this can have a huge impact in a community. We have heard deeply touching stories about their recipients, and we are thrilled to partner with Pedal It Forward." Advertisement Upcoming Events
