The city plans to distribute 244 vouchers to participants in the Opportunity Home program.

Each person will receive a $1,000 voucher to purchase an e-bike from a local bike shop.

The Chief Sustainability Officer for the City of San Antonio says the program is for those who may not own a car and lack easy transportation to work.

An online portal will launch next week for people to apply for the voucher.

They hope to distribute the vouchers in April.

Douglas Melnick says, “If recipients are successful, they will have to take a free bike skills class with the Alamo Area NPO to learn the basic rules of the road and how to ride safely in San Antonio.”When you receive a voucher, you can take it to a store called Pedal Guerrero to get your bike. The store is located in Balcones Heights. The program is designed for low-income residents. This is a pilot program; officials hope to expand it in the future.
