Mumbaikars celebrated World Bicycle Day (WBD) ) on June 3, with a curated tour through Bandra with Bombay Times Bicycle By The Bay event.
The same was launched last week and the spots were sold out within a few hours. The tour kicked off at 6.30am with around 40 participants and covered various parts of Bandra that showcased the quaint villages, old churches, historic precincts, and filmy neighbourhoods. This year’s WBD theme was ‘Riding Together for a Sustainable Future’.
The participants, who were aged between 25 to 75 years, rooted for this cost-effective, dependable and sustainable means of transportation.
‘The route included iconic landmarks’
Krupesh Pandya, tour guide who accompanied the cyclists, shares, “We began at 6.30am with an enthusiastic group of cyclists on almost empty morning streets. This tour covered a lot of interesting places like the quaint village of Ranwar, which is known for its old Portuguese architecture. The cyclists also got to see the city’s largest and oldest cross at St Andrew’s Church.” Abhishek Ravishankar, another tour guide adds, “It was great to do this special tour in the queen of suburbs and take the audience through the lesser-known bylanes of the city.”
