USA Cycling has partnered with Whoop to equip national team cyclists with the company’s wrist-worn fitness device. National team coaches will leverage the Whoop app’s data on sleep, muscle strain and recovery to monitor fatigue, develop individualized training for athletes and prevent overtraining.
USA Cycling is the national governing body for bike racing and has more than 100,000 members across its youth to professional competitions. All USA Cycling members will receive a 15% discount on Whoop products while licensed USA Cycling coaches will get a 20% Whoop discount.
Whoop’s existing distribution partnerships include deals with the NFLPA, PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and WTA . The PGA Tour and NASCAR have also begun showing graphics of athletes’ live heart-rate data tracked by Whoop during broadcasts. Whoop’s VP of performance science Kristin Holmes will speak at SportTechie’s State Of The Industry conference in New York City on April 12.
“Whoop provides an evident edge in understanding recovery and performance. We can unlock a rider’s potential with more data around their activities, the strain they’re under, what’s working for their recovery, and race performance,” Jim Miller, USA Cycling’s chief of sports performance, said in a statement.
