Stage Report: Stage 5 was one of the few day’s for the sprinters and it was that man again: Kaden Groves. The Alpecin-Deceuninck Australian was the fastest in the bunch sprint ahead of Filippo Ganna who went for a long sprint. Remco Evenepoel held the leader’s red jersey. Stage 5 final kilometre

Kaden Groves won the fifth stage of the 2023 Vuelta a España after a duel with Filippo Ganna. After 186 kilometres to Burriana, the Australian of Alpecin-Deceuninck was the fastest for the second day in a row. Dries Van Gestel took third place behind Ganna. The red jersey stays with Remco Evenepoel, who won the only intermediate sprint to add some seconds to his GC lead. Second win for Kaden Groves in two days Race director, Fernando Escartín : “A sprint finale is expected in this stage. The day’s only mountain challenge will take place 50 kilometres from the finish-line. Although escapes are possible, they may not necessarily take place within the first week of racing.
