Stage Report: Tuesday’s stage 4 was meant to be one for the sprinters and an easier day for the GC men. At the end of the stage in Tarragona it was Australia’s Caden Groves who took the win, just beating Juan Sebastián Molano to the line. Remco Evenepoel held the overall lead. The final K of stage 4
Kaden Groves won the fourth stage of the 2023 Vuelta a España. The Australian sprinter of Alpecin-Deceuninck came through a chaotic sprint to pass Juan Sebastián Molano in the last metres. Remco Evenepoel is still leading the general classification. Kaden Groves gives Alpecin-Deceuninck a Vuelta stage win Race director, Fernando Escartín : “This stage will, presumably, end in a sprint. Along the way, will be two 3rd category mountain passes, located right at the end of the stage. These should not pose much problems for sprinters as they are relatively easy climbs, far from the finish-line.” Stage 4 profile
The fourth stage was for the fast-finishers, so everyone expected. After the start in Andorra la Vella, the peloton had 100 kilometres of descending and flat roads to the south. In the final there was the Alto de Belltall (9.3km at 3.7%) and the Coll de Lilla (4.9km at 5.2%). After the summit of the Coll de Lilla, there was still 30 kilometres to the finish, so any dropped sprinters would still be able to return to the peloton in time for the sprint.
