Bosch has spent years touting its Smart System, a motor/battery/display array that seeks to consolidate and simplify power setups for ebike riders. Now, Trek’s ultra-high-end Rail lineup onboards the signature tech.
The newest Rail 9.8 and 9.9 offerings will revolve around Smart System power. It will crank up to 85Nm of assistance for steep climbs, and intelligent Tour+ and eMTB modes adjust power based on the rider’s terrain and input (in a bid for a natural pedal feel). The Rail 9.9 XX1 AXS Gen 4; now with Bosch Smart System for the first time. Rail riders, or anyone with the Smart System, can pair it with Bosch’s eBike Flow app. It lets riders customize their assistance, track various ride metrics, map and navigate routes, download updates via Bluetooth, and access service recommendations.
To keep track of stats on the fly, Rail 9.8 and 9.9 riders get Bosch’s System Controller. It sits flush on the top tube to deliver key metrics at a glance, and pairs with the compact Mini Remote to swap modes while riding.
Beyond the Bosch inclusion , Trek equips every Rail with a Removable Integrated Battery (RIB). RIB aims at easy, toolless battery removal from the down tube for faster charges and safer storage during travel.
