Remco Evenepoel won the opening time trial of the 2023 Giro d’Italia by over 20 seconds. In the 19.6 kilometre chrono stage 1, the Belgian was much faster than his closes competitors, Filippo Ganna and João Almeida. Primoz Roglič finished sixth and lost 43 seconds. The first bunch sprint of the 2023 Giro d’Italia was won by Jonathan Milan. In San Salvo, the Italian of Bahrain Victorious was the fastest after 202 kilometres, holding off David Dekker (Arkéa-Samsic) and the other fast men in a crash split bunch.
