KUALA LUMPUR: Just months after the demise of Team Sapura Cycling in June, Malaysia Pro Cycling (MPC) has emerged as the nation’s newest UCI continental team.
MPC is a continuation of the Sapura squad and is headed by the same founder and team principal, Sayuti Zahit, albeit under new sponsors.
Sayuti said he was contacted by numerous parties after news of Sapura’s closure became public in early July.
"We were forced to close down the Sapura team as we were unable to secure new sponsors," said Sayuti at the MPC team launch event in Putrajaya today.
