Travelling by bike has many benefits, from reducing your carbon footprint to keeping you more active In 2019, Wales became the first UK nation to declare a ‘climate emergency’. The Welsh Government set a target for the country to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and is investing £2 billion from 2021/22 to 2023/24 to support communities, businesses and organisations in their collective efforts to tackle climate change.

Here, we take a look at Pedal Power, one of the charities that has received support from the Welsh Government, the actions it has taken to be green, and how it’s inspiring us to consider travelling more sustainably. Reliving the past for a brighter future

Beginning as a small project in a Cardiff hospital in 1996 for disabled cyclists, Pedal Power aims to encourage and enable people of all ages and abilities to experience the benefits of cycling, striving to remove the barriers that many people face.

Based in Pontcanna Caravan Park and Cardiff Bay, Pedal Power offers a range of accessible bikes for hire, as well as guided riding sessions.

The Welsh Government also recently funded a fleet of e-bikes to encourage more people to consider cycling as a viable transport option across Cardiff.
