Mary McLarnon, a sophomore on the Steamboat mountain bike team, was the race winner with a victory in Showdown on the Boat at Emerald Mountain on Sept. 9, 2023. McLarnon won all four races in the regular season and will advance alongside 22 teammates to the State Championships in Glenwood Springs on Oct. 21 and 22, 2023. Members of the Steamboat Springs Mountain Bike Team had one last chance to qualify for state in their last regular season ride Sunday.
The Haymaker Classic in Eagle was the fourth and final race of the Colorado Cycling League season, and 23 Steamboat athletes will officially continue on to the State Championship Spring Valley Scramble at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs on Oct. 21-22, representing the Yampa Division.
To meet state qualification criteria, riders must compete in at least two of the four regular season races while placing in the top 25 per region for varsity and top 40 per region in all other categories.
In Sunday’s race, Steamboat solidified the season sweep, winning all four regular season races in the Division 2 Yampa series, and took home eight podium finishes including two gold medals.
Steamboat’s varsity girl duo of Mary McLarnon and Eva Minotto continued to impress by taking the top two spots on the podium yet again. McLarnon won all four races in the series, while Minotto was not far behind and took second in each race.
