The award recognizes the city’s commitment to creating transportation and recreational resources that benefit its residents of all ages and abilities while encouraging healthier and more sustainable transportation choices.

“We are honored to accept the silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community award after being at bronze since 2010. This milestone reflects the progress Spokane has made through prioritizing infrastructure improvements and investing in initiatives that make our city safer for cyclists,” said City of Spokane Planner Colin Quinn-Hurst.

Spokane joins 460 communities across the country in the movement for safer streets and better bicycling for everyone.

“Finding ways to build and maintain infrastructure to support multiple transportation options for our community is a welcome challenge for our Public Works team; this designation supports our team and the work they do,” said City of Spokane Public Works Director Marlene Feist.

Some recent projects the city has invested in for bike-friendly infrastructure include: Post Street Bridge
