SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Joy Lind made a goal to bike her age in miles on every birthday. She is this week’s Someone You Should Know.
“Well, I have been an avid biker for as long as I can remember. I remember moving here and just being thrilled with the bike trail here in Sioux Falls,” said Lind.
Lind pedals for miles and miles. The Kentucky native, who is a business professor at the University of Sioux Falls, had an idea on a birthday.
“In August of 2021, as I was approaching my 50th birthday, I had this thought, ‘Can I bike 50 miles on my 50th birthday?’ And I went into that with pretty low expectations, but I succeeded. So then, I set a goal for each year going forward. On my birthday, I would bike in miles my age, essentially,” said Lind.
Lind kept succeeding with 51, 52, and 53 miles biked on her following birthdays.
“You know, the challenge with this is with each year, I get older, but I have to do more miles. I actually do it in two legs. So, I start from our house. It’s about a ten-minute drive to the trail. Then, I do the full loop and then go back to the house and then eat a big burger and do the second leg. So, it’s really two loops around this trail, plus some add-on,” said Lind.
