Rondo’s upcoming Ioon gravel ebike looks a lot like their latest second-generation Ruut gravel bike, maybe giving a bit more explanation for that bike’s unique oversized aesthetics. But it’s not quite an exact replica with a motor added. The new Rondo Ioon neatly integrates a Fazua ebike drive system into the carbon frame, although it required some downtube reshaping and even slightly closing-in the Ruut’s interrupted seattube design.

(Photos/Rondo) What first grabbed our attention a couple of years ago with Rondo’s complete Ruut’s gravel bike redesign was the curious rear triangle design. – breaking the continuity of the conventional seattube, and resulting in a frame of 2 trapezoids, instead of 2 classic triangles. But while that unique new design introduced some rear-end-flexing comfort that I could actually feel when riding the new Ruut 2.0 , the boxy oversized front end felt stiff and maybe even a bit overbuilt.

Now, that I see a 5kg heavier ebike version with a motor and battery tucked into its downtube, I can maybe start to understand why that front end stiffness might have already been there waiting. What’s new?
