More than 1,000 riders braved a brisk morning to take in some of Louisville’s most iconic sights, all from their bicycle seats.
The annual Kentucky Derby Festival PNC Tour de Lou bicycle ride offered a variety of routes for riders of all skill levels, with 20-mile and 35-mile trails along with a 62.1-mile (metric century) route for the best riders.
Cyclists rolled through downtown, Shawnee, Cherokee Parks and Prospect. They journeyed past the iconic twin spires of Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby will take place in just a few short weeks. And the most experienced cyclists crossed two bridges and traveled through parts of southern Indiana as well in a lengthy spring ride.
The Kentucky Derby Festival continues this week ahead of next Saturday’s Thunder Over Louisville fireworks show. The Kentucky Derby is set for May 7.
