Bridging the gap: The foot overbridge on riverfront set to open; Pic: Jignesh vora The Sabarmati Riverfront Authority is coming up with a novel idea of using the space to boost people’s ‘pure, natural good health’. It is planning to hold a series of meetings with sports and fitness authorities as well as medical associations and diet experts on April 27 to work out the nitty gritty.
Sources said that as the riverfront is being used well for jogging, walking and cycling facilities, the authority will now give recognition to people who use it most for fitness purposes.
Former IAS officer and chairman of Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation Ltd (SRFDCL) Keshav Verma told Mirror that their idea is to improve the health and immunity of Amdavadis who use the riverfront. “We will advise them with tips on health and nutritious food to increase their immunity given the prevalent circumstances. We are introducing awards for people who come to Sabarmati riverfront for walking, jogging and cycling. They can measure their steps or the distance they jog and cycle on their mobile phones and submit the data to us. I am sure nobody will cheat on this. The idea is to encourage people to come to Sabarmati riverfront and build their fitness and immunity,” Verma said.
