CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Registration is open for the Charlottesville Criterium and Bike Fest, which will take place on April 16.

The Charlottesville Racing Club and the University of Virginia Cycling Club say the event will be presented by the Dairy Market.

According to a release, a Criterium is a fast-paced bicycle race on a short, closed course for differing amounts of time, depending on experience level.

The course for this will be located in a commercial and residential district that includes three breweries, a German-style beer hall, bakeries, coffee shops and several restaurants.

There will also be a Bike Parade, which is open to anyone in the community with a bicycle who wants to ride a lap around the course.

This event will be a fundraiser for Charlottesville Community Bikes, a nonprofit that recycles bicycles and makes biking more accessible.

CCB has its Free kids’ Bike Program that gives refurbished bikes to area children for free, the Bike Referral Program that offers refurbished bikes for adults in need, the Mobile Repair Clinics, Educational Programming, and the Refurbished Bike and Repair Shop.Last year, CCB piloted a program for middle schoolers at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Virginia and it plans to expand youth riding programs this year. The release says money from this fundraiser will go to support this effort. To register for the Criterium, click here . There is also a GoFundMe for this event, which can be found here .
