Merino wool comes with lots of benefits — but it’s not especially durable.
So for Rapha’s new collection of MTB apparel , the brand’s Performance Trailwear department developed a blend of merino and synthetic fibers that it says boosts the fabric’s durability, even on tough trails.
For winter 2022, the company dropped a line of T-shirts and tank tops made from its Rapha Performance Merino Off Road Wool. The garments come with the classic benefits of merino wool, which include sweat wicking, odor resistance, and thermoregulation.
But Rapha also says they will stand up to a beating. And for when the clothing tears, Rapha includes a set of color-matched iron-on patches that allow for “easy home repair,” extending the life of each piece. The company offers both long-sleeve and short-sleeve T-shirts using its new material. Both come in a blend of 52 percent merino wool and 48 percent nylon.

The long-sleeve shirts come in three colors, Dark Gray, Pale Green and Ultramarine, and sell for $130. For a little less, you can get the a short-sleeve for $115. It’s available in Dark Gray, Pale Green, and Deep Blue.
