Finish lines of major races are known for being hectic spots. Between riders contesting sprints and coming into the finishing area at top speed, surges of fans flooding the sidelines and spilling into the finish area, herds of photographers armed with cameras with lens’ as long as your arm, and plenty of team managers, directors, soigneurs, and friends and family, it’s amazing that more races don’t have huge crashes after the finish line. And this weekend at the Vuelta a Colombia, race leader Luis Carlos Chía (Supergiros-Alc.Manziales) managed to take a victory in the stage… but crashed into his wife as he tried to navigate the finishing chute.

The entire incident at the end of Stage 3 in the race was caught on video, causing embarrassment for Chia and some minor injuries for his wife. Footage of the finish shows Chía smoothly sailing in to take the win in a bunch sprint, then cuts to him on the ground with his wife seconds later.
