Last week’s running of the Strade Bianche race, its 14th edition, brought us once again the thrills of great bike racing to which we have become accustomed at this event. At 180+ kms it is perhaps too short to be considered a Classic but in that distance over the white gravel roads of Tuscany, ending on the spectacular steep streets of Siena, it packs in plenty of excitement. Through the dust – Wout van Aert The Strade Bianche, the White Roads of Tuscany, are actually far more than the pro race, stretching for hundreds of kilometers and much of the region is signposted by tourism authorities so it is possible to enjoy riding there on your own. Organizers have in the past scheduled a Gran Fondo event on the same roads as the pros but taking place the next day.
