The civic body’s cycling model on ‘Harit Setu’ has won the Bloomberg initiative for cycling infrastructure global challenge organised by Bloomberg philanthropies and global designing cities initiative. Pimpri Chinchwad was one of the ten cities chosen under the global challenge on June 2.

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The civic body’s cycling model on ‘Harit Setu’ has won the Bloomberg initiative for cycling infrastructure global challenge organised by Bloomberg philanthropies and global designing cities initiative. Pimpri Chinchwad was one of the ten cities chosen under the global challenge on June 2.
The 10 winners are from countries and collectively represent more than 15 million people. Besides Pimpri Chinchwad, they include Fortaleza in Brazil, the winner of a $1 million prize, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Bogota in Colombia, Lisbon in Portugal, Milan in Italy, Mombasa in Kenya, Quelimane in Mozambique, Tirana in Albania and Wellington in New Zealand. Each city will receive $4,00,000 in funding.

Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh said, "The Harit Setu project will implement innovative street designs that prioritise cycling, promote sustainable transportation options, revitalise neighbourhoods and communities, and enhance the safety and accessibility of cycling for all residents."
He added that they are aware of the practical problems of implementing the cycling project. "The issues of encroachment, errant motorists, and vendors will be addressed during the implementation of the project.
