LAHORE – Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) along with national cyclists on Friday celebrated the ‘World Bicycle Day’ with great zeal and fervor here at Cycling Velodrome, Nishtar Park.
PCF General Secretary Moazzam Khan Klair, along with coaches Javed Khan, Sakhawat Shah and Amjad Khan, participated in the event with the purpose of making the masses aware of the benefits of bicycle especially in this era of dearness and diseases. Moazzam said: “In the current situation of the country, bicycle is an excellent ride, as it can not only help us save foreign exchange, but can also keep us physically fit and protect us from various diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.”
Highlighting the purpose of celebrating the Day, he said: “World Bicycle Day is celebrated every year on June 3. The day aims to develop a culture of cycling for basic transportation, commutation, and strengthening physical and mental health. It draws attention to recognise the longevity, uniqueness, and versatility of the bicycle, and that it is an affordable, reliable, simple, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport.
“Bicycle contributes to a sustainable transport system that promotes economic growth and reduces inequalities while strengthening our fight against climate change which is critical to achieving the ‘sustainable development’ goals,” Moazzam asserted.
