Residents can look forward to new mountain biking trails at City Forest after a series of flow trails unlike any others in the Tri-City area was approved by Midland City Council on Monday in City Hall.
The mountain biking trails and skills park were proposed by the Central Michigan Mountain Bike Association, a group that has utilized other trails in Midland for many years. The group also hosts volunteer work days at City Forest to do trail improvements and maintenance and has developed a youth mountain biking program in the city.
Midland City Council members were intrigued by the proposal to build flow trails – or a series of trails ranging in skill levels – in an area of the park near the toboggan run that is currently not utilized.
The project would build two natural surface trails. One trail is both beginner and adaptive, with wider trails and less outslope to accommodate those that are disabled. The other trail would be for those with a higher skill level and contains more obstacles such as jumps and drops.
The skills park would contain many obstacles for riders to hone their skills.
