Mike Henning finally arrives in Cape Town and enjoys the Table Mountain scenery in the distance. Photo: Facebook. The ‘single speed lorry’, as Mike Henning’s trusty bicycle has come to be known, trucked along the Cape Town coast on Sunday morning, March 6 as Mike took in the cool seaside breeze before arriving at the final destination of his across-country trek at Eden on the Bay.

Mike undertook this 1 600km cycling challenge from Gauteng to Cape Town on February 19 to raise funds for the Matla A Bana Xtreme for Kids awareness and donation programme. Read the original article here.

Mike set off from the Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club in the early morning hours of February 19 with no support vehicle or other riders to accompany him. He had to take on the road on his own and set up camp at night wherever he found a safe place to do so. On day 1 the first 20km of his ride was in the rain and once he turned off the paved road, conditions became muddy and slippery. About 115km in I climbed through a gate into a farmer’s field and set up a nice stealth camp, washed the rest of my hamburgers down with whisky-spiked coffee and settled in for the night,” he said.
