Chandigarh: In a bid to make cycling safer, the Chandigarh MC and Smart City, along with an NGO launched the “Chipkar” campaign at the MC workers’ stores. Mayor Anup Gupta formally launched the campaign by pasting reflective stickers on the bicycles of MC labourers at the horticulture store in Sector 33 in the presence of MC commissioner Anindita Mitra and others.
The mayor said that the campaign had been launched as part of the Amrit Utsav and World Bicycle Day celebrations in collaboration with Chandigarh Smart City Limited and an NGO. He said that similar camps were also organised at other stores where employees and labourers had come with their bicycles. According to him, such camps help “real heroes” of the city who cycle to work daily and required safety measures. He also lauded the efforts of the Patiala Foundation for working towards the safety of cyclists since 2017 and organising such camps under Chipkar campaign. The mayor emphasised the utility of reflective stickers for cyclists who commuted in the dark as they made cycles visible to motorists. tnn
