Breakway Brewing is now open in Government Hill. San Antonio cyclists and beer enthusiasts alike will be excited to learn that a new cycling-themed brewery is ready to pour its first glass. Breakway Brewing Co. is officially opening in the Government Hill neighborhood.
Breakway Brewing was first hinted at in an Instagram post from January 2021, and earlier Friday, February 3, the company announced its soft opening to the public in a similar fashion . The new space, located at 1518 E. Grayson St., San Antonio, TX 78208, will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Breakaway Brewing’s brewlist features The Texan, a Tex-Mex-style ale, and Vogel, a German-style altbier named after German track cyclist Kristina Vogel. The brewery will also serve some interesting small bites, including a jambalaya-style arancini.
According to the brewery’s website, co-owners Chris and Jean Pal-Freeman are from the Pacific Northwest, where cycling and beer culture go hand in hand. The couple undoubtedly saw that intersection reflected in San Antonio’s vibrant cycling community, which has developed something of a symbiotic relationship with the city’s centrally-located breweries and bike-friendly watering holes.
