Dear Editor

I was delighted to read your recent article on the e-Cargo bikes with Mayor Dave resplendent in his cycling helmet.

It would now be even better if Dave could use his new cycling credentials to experience the frankly woeful cycle infrastructure that this borough currently offers.

Narrow lanes cleaved from the regular roads, paths shared with dog walkers, on-off pavement routes, routes which seem to stop and start and random, and even one which takes you head on with oncoming motorised traffic and then stops abruptly (Dame Alice Street).

I’d be delighted to accompany Dave around some of these ‘highlights’ if he would like.

Supporting cycle infrastructure improvements would surely create a more memorable, greener and more equitable legacy than the contentious, largely unwanted,(East-West) railway that on its current course is set to cause misery for many home-owners, commuters and anyone that appreciates our unbroken parks and countryside.

Why, you could even dream of a cycle path direct to the UK’s cycling capital, Cambridge – imagine that.RegardsJames Stanbridge Byron Crescent Bedford Letters published in our publication are the views of the author, not the Bedford Independent.
