Spring arrives this month and with it, daylight saving time which means more hours of sunshine. To celebrate the season and get in shape, keep workouts simple and on your own time by biking.

“Cycling is a great fitness activity because it is less stressful on the body and allows for a full body workout including legs, core and upper body,” says Kenneth Oladapo, owner and lead mechanic of Clutch Bicycle Shop in Atlanta. “Cycling is also something people can do at any age and offers the benefits of exercise, transportation and the ability to enjoy being outdoors.”

To get a leg up on actually biking outdoors (no shade to Peleton’s virtual outdoor scenic biking), check out the following seven brands and shops, a mix of bikes that can be bought at big-box retailers, customizable ones available for purchase online and local bike shops that sell and rent bikes. Bike rentals are great for casual, noncommittal workouts; act as a supplement to an at-home or in-gym fitness regimen; or calorie-burning joy rides with friends.
