The Headwaters 100 attracts hundreds of cyclists from all over North America to tour the region’s spectacular fall colors. Bicyclists from across the U.S. will assemble in Park Rapids for the Headwaters 100, slated for Saturday, Sept. 28.

The sojourn begins and ends at the Century School, offering participants a 45-, 75- or 100-mile excursion.

Established in 1980, the Headwaters 100 originally began as a 100-mile bike race and touring ride.

Organized by the Itascatur Outdoor Activity Club, today it’s a casual, non-competitive ride.

Itascatur member and Heartland 100 director Richard Jarrett said 260 riders were registered, as of Sept. 17.

“We’ve had wonderful fall weather up here,” he added.

Registration is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Century School’s north entrance, 501 Helten Ave. Participants receive a wristband with phone numbers to contact the support and gear wagon as well as a map of the ride. T-shirts are included for early registrants.The ride officially starts at 9 a.m.Prepackaged food will be available at food stops.Refreshments are included in the registration, with stops along the course at Itasca State Park, the Mantrap Conservation Club and Muskie Park in Nevis.For rules, maps, frequently-asked questions and more, visit www.itascutur.org .
