After taking sixth place in Thursday’s time-trial Barrow started confidently in the MT2 race but was unfortunate to suffer rear wheel damage on the first lap of the course, when leading the race by 10 seconds.
By the time he was able to resume racing he found himself two minutes down on the leaders and was forced to race alone for the final three laps, however he showed great determination to push on and secure a second top 10 finish in what is his first UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships for the team. In a strong MH5 field Faucher again delivered an accomplished ride, and despite falling out of the back of the main group on the first climb, he battled well to stay in contention, and executed a perfectly timed sprint to beat two riders to ninth place.
Also a world championships debutant, the result means Faucher heads home with two top 10 finishes, and both riders will take great confidence heading into next year and a home world championships in Scotland.
The championships concludes today with the B and C category road races, where the Great Britain Cycling Team riders will be looking to add to the three rainbow jerseys earned on Friday. You can watch the all the action live via the YouTube live stream or follow live results here.
