JULY 17, 2022 – The ninth annual Gran Fondo Asheville, featuring the Gran Fondo National Championships, offered competition for some cyclists while offering recreation for others, depending on their skill level and desire on Sunday, July 17 in downtown Asheville. Participants gathered at Rabbit Rabbit downtown, where they set off on a bike ride through the mountains Sunday morning, July 17.

Reuben Kline, the director of Gran Fondo National Series, said the event is both competitive and recreational, using a timed section format for those putting their skills to the test.

“Everybody rolls out of town, and they’ll ride either a 30, 60 or 100-mile route today," Kline said. "Those 100-mile riders are going through four designated timed segments.”

Riders returned to downtown for a bike fest Sunday afternoon.

The event also benefitted Asheville on Bikes, a local nonprofit advocating for cyclists.
