Winter Bike to Work Day in Fort Collins is coming up on Feb. 14.

The annual event is in its 18th year and includes free coffee, breakfast and events as a way to encourage residents to use an active mode of transportation — walking, biking or using a scooter, for example — to get wherever they are going.

Breakfast stations will be open from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at various locations across the city. Afternoon stations will be open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. They will offer food, drinks and giveaways, according to a city news release.

A map of the locations will be posted prior to Feb. 14 on the city of Fort Collins’ Bike to Work Day website .

Rather than have a closing ceremony, the city plans to enhance the experience at the various stations, the news release stated.

“Winter Bike to Work Day is a wonderful way to embrace the spirit of Fort Collins in the colder months,” said AnnMarie Kirkpatrick, Active Modes specialist with the city, in the news release. “It’s all about celebrating our active transportation community while enjoying the unique charm of winter biking.”

The event is also aimed at encouraging people to reduce their vehicle miles traveled. In 2023, according to the city, more than 5,400 participants saved 44,236 vehicle miles traveled, which they equate to about 16 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
