Cyclists of all ages and abilities will be able to sharpen their riding skills at the town of Firestone’s new bike park and pump track. (Town of Firestone / Courtesy image) During its Feb. 8 meeting, the Firestone Board of Trustees unanimously approved a not-to-exceed $573,931 contract with Missouri-based American Ramp Company to design and construct the project.
The bike park and pump track will be on 1.29-acres in the southwest corner of Mountain Shadows Park in Firestone.
“No, it is not a BMX racing track,” Josh Willis, American Ramp Company vice president of West Coast and international sales, said. “There is a jump line on it and it can be used by BMX and dirt jumpers and mountain bikers.”
Motorized bikes will not be allowed on the course.
The pump track, which will allow bikers and skaters to move without pedaling or putting their feet down on the surface, will be made entirely out of asphalt.
“Dozens of people can ride it at one time,” Willis said of the pump track.
The jump line and riding trail surrounding the pump track will consist of more natural dirt work, according to Willis.Construction is scheduled to begin this spring, and the project has a target completion date of late summer or early fall, Chuck Bradt, Firestone parks division manager, said in an email Monday.“We are hoping it can be used all year round,” Bradt said of the bike […]
