A cycle speedway event in Dunfermline is to benefit. Photo: Jim Payne. EVENTS in West Fife are set to benefit from a share of a six-figure pot of cash made available ahead of a global competition heading to Scotland.

In August, the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, featuring 11 days of competition across seven cycling disciplines, will take place, welcoming thousands of amateur and elite cyclists from more than 120 countries.

It is set to be the first event of its kind, with competitors vying for 13 titles, and a Community Cycling Fund is set to support five events in the Kingdom.

Robbie Clyde, head of EventScotland, said: "The 24 events being supported through the fund will give people the chance to discover the joy riding a bike can bring to their everyday lives in a fun and safe environment, while also helping create a lasting benefit from our hosting of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships."

The development strand of the fund will be administered by sportscotland and the events strand delivered by EventsScotland – and events in Dunfermline and Aberdour have received a share of £160,000 from the second round of the latter.

Fife Revolutions cycle speedway club, based at their custom-built track at Queen Anne High School, will be supported in hosting a taster session and a race on Saturday June 10.

And Carnegie Cyclones, a Go-Ride youth cycling club for children aged seven to 15, will also receive backing to organise, in conjunction with Fife Council, a cyclocross event at Hawkcraig […]
