File photo. Mountain bikes are expensive, and for most of us, buying a new bike means selling an old one to offset the cost. But to others, a bike is a lifelong commitment. (For the life of the bike, that is.) Maybe for the lucky few, money is no object and resale isn’t a consideration at all. We want to know where you fall on that spectrum.

When you buy a new mountain bike, do you consider resale? * Not at all. I plan to run my bike into the ground, let it gather dust, or just give it away.

Somewhat. I might want to upgrade after a few years, and selling the old one would help.

Absolutely. Bikes are temporary, mountain biking is forever.

If you answered that you somewhat or absolutely consider resale value, tell us what you look for in a bike to make it attractive for resale. Is it the color, the components, the brand name, or something else? Do you have any tips for riding and maintaining your bike to maximize resale value?
