The city notes the improvements are to provide cyclists with a safe and protected route between the Alex Fraser Bridge and River Road, connecting to the existing multi-use pathway on Weigh Scale Road and tie-in to the existing on-street bike lane on River Road. The City of Delta is planning to create a multi-use pathway along the east side of Nordel Way, between the weigh scale and River Road.

Recently having gathered public feedback on the concept, the route was identified for improvements as part of recommendations from the Delta’s Cycling Master Plan Study.

The city notes the improvements are to provide cyclists with a safe and protected route between the Alex Fraser Bridge and River Road, connecting to the existing multi-use pathway on Weigh Scale Road and tie-in to the existing on-street bike lane on River Road.

The proposed improvements include a 3.5-metre-wide asphalt multi-use pathway, LED street lighting upgrades, bus stop landing improvements, pavement markings and related signage.

Construction has been scheduled to begin this summer.

City council recently received a draft of a new cycling master plan for Delta.

The plan identifies Delta-wide network gaps, community connectivity, improved safety, cyclist education opportunities and improved infrastructure maintenance.Once further public consultation is completed, the engineering and finance departments are to further refine the plan. The final plan will eventually come back to council in a report and may be referred to the council’s 2023 business plan workshop.
