Local cycling lover Dan Hoeh is hoping to bring a cycling event to West Michigan and is hosting a trial ride for those interested in checking out part of the planned ride that would showcase area dams. BIG RAPIDS — A local bike enthusiast hoping to bring a cycling event to West Michigan that would tour area dams is hosting a trial ride for those interested in checking out part of the planned ride.
Dan Hoeh, of Big Rapids, presented to the Big Rapids Rotary Club his idea to found a major bike event in the county in February and has been working toward getting the plans approved since.
He has planned a preliminary trial ride starting at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Big Rapids Depot Building, 910 Maple St., for bikers to join.
Hoeh’s initial vision for the ride had it beginning at Northland Park moving through the trail, by Ferris State University and Rogers Dam, then on over Davis Bridge into Newaygo County then crossing over to the Hardy Dam to come back to Morley from Northland Drive.
He has tinkered with the ride’s map to adjust for comfortable riding and ideal views of the area dams and waterways, and said that he is still working on the final map plans.
