The hills around Childers will provide a testing course for cyclists participating in Sunday’s Wide Bay Cup. Senior riders from Bundaberg and Fraser Coast Cycling Clubs are in for a testing 60km road race when the Wide Bay Cup returns for a second year to Childers on Sunday.
Bundaberg Cycling Club president Wayne Morden said the 2020 edition of the Wide Bay Cup has attracted a good field of junior and senior riders.
“Following the success of last year’s event Bundaberg Cycling Club will again partner with Fraser Coast Cycling Club to host the event on neutral territory,” he said.
“Rather than host individual events in each centre it was decided to continue to host the combined event.
“Nominations have been surprisingly good with upwards of 40 senior riders and around 10 juniors expected to participate.
“There are clashing events in Brisbane which have naturally attracted riders from both clubs.
“Under 13 and under 15 riders will compete in an event restricted to 20 minutes or less and may include a one lap circuit road race depending on numbers attending.”Juniors will race at 9am sharp followed by the seniors at 9.30am with all races commencing and finishing at the historic Royal Hotel.The hotel, which was built around 1894, is located in Randall Street close to the centre of Childers.Mr Morden said senior riders will include under 17, women and elite groups and will race three laps of a 20km course.“The route will take riders out of town along North Isis Road,” he said.“Partial road […]
