WGXA MACON, Ga. — Bike riders in Macon gathered at the Society Garden for the Macon Bike Party’s Ingleside area ride.

The ride takes place every second Thursday of the month, and each month bikers pick a different route, theme, and a new group to partner with.

This month, bikers took a ride through historic Vine-Ingle, making a pit stop at Jefferson Long Park for a quick yoga session with the talented Renee Corwine and ending the ride back at Society Garden.

"The whole objective of Macon Bike Party is to get people together in a really fun and social way, but get to experience biking on Macon streets in a slow, in a comfortable way, and hopefully through time be encouraged to commute more on Macon streets by bike," Rachel Umana, Executive Director of Bike Walk Macon said.

Bikers of all ages and skillsets were invited, even those who never rode on the street during active traffic.

"We’ve got a lot of experienced bicyclists who can teach people how to safely bike in the street," Umana said. "Even if you feel uncomfortable we’ve got some great people here to show you how to do it.

According to Umana, there are a lot of Macon streets that aren’t built for cyclists. With the growth in Macon’s bike lanes, events similar to Macon Bike Party expose residents to new bike routes and roads throughout the city."This will be the perfect opportunity to show people where are the good streets that have that room for bicyclists," Umana said.
