BOYNE CITY — In an effort to help students become more active, Ginop Sales in Alanson donated 20 bikes to students at Concord Academy Boyne on Thursday.
The donation includes 10 women’s bikes and 10 men’s bikes for students to use. Concord Academy Boyne students pose with bikes donated to them by Ginop Sales on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023. The idea was sparked after Gwen Matelski, a Concord mother and associate at Ginop Sales, saw a similar bike donation at Wolverine Community Schools the year prior. She then worked with the school and her bosses to make the donation possible.
Joslyn Matelski, assistant administrator at Concord, said she and Gwen thought having bikes at the school would be nice because of how close the school is to a nearby bike trail.
"Once we get past the winter season and spring starts, we are definitely excited to make that a big part of the classroom experience, that they’re going to be out and about and on the bike trails and possibly down at the river for science experiments," said Joslyn.
Joslyn added that she was excited to have the new opportunity for students.
"I’m excited for another opportunity to add something in that we haven’t had, and then to be able to utilize our bike trail because it is a really nice bike trail with access to a lot of spots in the community," Joslyn said.
