Seconds later, she was sitting upright, arms folded with a winning smirk on her face after crossing the line first to claim the first Women’s One Day Classic in Adelaide.
"It was a deal with the soigneur (trainer) I have to do this," Copponi said.
"It was really funny because during the race my soigneur said I would do it.
"I was feeling good before the race, I just needed to get used to the heat and yeah, job done."
The French sprinter for Lidl-Trek flew through a furious sprint up King William Road to claim the victory after a phenomenal race around the 4.5km street circuit, recording her first win on the road since 2022.
