This brief edit follows the esteemed adventure photographer on a ride from the bustling confines of his studio to a minimalist campout out on the Cali shore.

As one of the world’s most experienced and in-demand shutterbugs , Chris Burkard is a busy, busy guy. But when the chance to unwind and reset arises, he guns for his bicycle.

“It’s never been more important for me to find outlets, to find even the smallest adventures — because that’s what fuels me creatively,” he explains, walking eagerly from his desk toward his pack-laden bike.

Burkard has traveled to the deepest jungles and barest tundras, but his philosophy is simple: “If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that you can find inspiration just out your front door.”

Jilli grew up in the rural southern Colorado mountains, later moving to Texas for college. After seven years in corporate consulting, she was introduced to sport climbing — and life would never be the same. She now works as a contributor, gear tester, and editor for GearJunkie and other outlets within the AllGear family. She is based out of Atlanta, Georgia where she takes up residence with her climbing gear and one-eared blue heeler, George Michael.
