Chicago stands out for its high road safety score and popularity of bike commuting | Photo via City of Chicago Facebook Chicago ranked among the top 20 US cities for bike friendliness in a study conducted by Coworking Cafe. The Windy City took the 14th spot, thanks to a high road safety score and the overall popularity of cycling amongst the local population.

The study analyzed various metrics, including infrastructure, traffic safety, and weather. The study also factored in the number of commuters who bike to work and the number of bike-friendly coworking spaces.

Chicago registered 0.8 miles of bike lanes per square mile and 1.3 bike accidents per 100,000 people over a five-year span. The study also found that 1.5% of Chicago’s workforce bikes to work each day.

Bike safety and accommodations remain a priority for Chicago, with more and more of the population biking each year. Expansions to biking infrastructure are taking place citywide, with more bike lanes, protective barriers, and other safety measures being installed.
