But for some families, that may not be in the budget. That’s where Bike a Better Path comes in.
Forrest Healey has been giving away bicycles since 2019.
Bike a Better Path started with just a little bike drive down the road at George Park.
“We had a goal of 30 bikes. We ended up getting 50 bikes,” says Healey.
The idea for his non-profit, Bike a Better Path, came to him after reading posts on social media.
“Some single mothers that needed help and support, and I just was inspired by all the giving and I thought, what can I do?”Then his wheels started spinning.“I found out that there are over 2 million kids in Pennsylvania living in poverty. So, you know, they have all these programs for food and shelter. But what about the kids and self? So bikes seemed like a natural solution.”This year, Healey and his volunteer elves, helped Christmas wishes come true for 230 kids and their families.“Whatever needed to be picked up, moved, pushed around. That’s what that was part of my job.”But its more than a jobits delivering joy one bicycle at a time.“They’re always extremely happy and excited. And then they know their kids are getting something that they want. They’re being able to get their kids something that they want. And it’s just it’s a very happy time for them.
