Double Rider Interview: Canadians from Ottawa have made their presence felt at the WorldTour this year, with Mike Woods’ impressive scaling of the Puy de Dome to win a stage at the Tour de France and the remarkable breakthrough ride of his teammate, Derek Gee, earlier at the Giro d’Italia. In his first Grand Tour Derek came second on four stages, second in the mountains classification, second in the sprints classification and, unsurprisingly given his constant breakaway presence, awarded the prize for Most Combative Rider. Derek Gee on Giro’23 stage 19 PezCyclingNews recently had the opportunity to chat with Derek and his partner, Ruby West, as both prepared for the UCI World Cycling Championships in Glasgow. Ruby had a strong national record as a junior cyclocross racer and is now concentrating on the track. Ruby West – World Cup cyclo-cross Hoogerheide 2019 PEZ: A double interview is unusual so our first question is what is it like to live with another competitive cyclist? Do you train together? What sort of things do you do from a cycling standpoint, given the heavy training requirements for the World Tour?
Ruby West: This is new for both of us too! We have pretty different schedules these days. I’m pursuing more of the track, Derek, obviously, on the road.
