Local bicycle shop in Arcata, near Cal Poly Humboldt (The Northstate’s News) TOPICS: Cal Poly Humboldt Silver Bicycle-Friendly Business Award Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities Alternative transportation Bike parking Humboldt Bikeshare Public education Community safety EUREKA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt recently won a Silver Bicycle-Friendly Business Award, joining over a thousand companies also committed to creating a bicycle friendly environment nationwide.

"We do public education and advocacy work around things like walking and biking and public transportation, we are really trying to make sure that it is safe and convenient and comfortable for people to get around their communities by means other than driving a car," said Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities Executive Director, Colin Fiske.

The Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities discussed the City of Arcata and Cal Poly Humboldt’s efforts to promote alternative means of transportation while ensuring these modes of transportation safe, convenient, and comfortable for community members.

"It is also a really important thing for an employer, but also for a university, or just in general for a community to have a secured weather protected bike parking and just sort of abundant place to secure your bike around town, particularly where people live and work," said Fiske.

Cal Poly Humboldt encourages bicycling as a cost-effective transportation option and offers amenities such as Humboldt Bikeshare , which is a partnership with the City of Arcata.
