Kilburn, this year’s National Over-55 Cyclo-Cross champion, and Delve, who added the European Masters title to his previous world and national crowns, were honoured for their achievements in off-road competition over the last two years.
Newton Abbot’s Harry Birchill finished an impressive second in the season-opening ‘Perfs Pedal’ and helped his Saint Piran team to lay down a marker for the 2023 UK road racing campaign.
Birchill, 22, followed Jack Rootkin-Gray over the line with Zeb Kyffin third in a Piran 1-2-3, after the trio had pulled clear of the field in the 46-mile race at Southwick, Hampshire.
It was the 58th edition of the curtain-raising ‘Pedal’, and Rootkin-Gray and former Mid-Devon CC starlet and South Dartmoor College student Birchill celebrated by getting back on their bikes and putting in a few extra ‘training’ miles!
The Cornish semi-pro squad helped to chase down an early break, and when decision-time came on the fifth and final lap they were too good for their rivals, who included 2022 winner Damien Clayton.
