The "Big Build Festival" provided 35 mountain bikes for Navarre Middle School students (WSBT Photo) SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — The South Bend Empowerment Zone has partnered with the South Bend Bike Garage to provide bikes for some Navarre Middle School students.

The Big Build Festival will bring 35 new mountain bikes for the students.

This is all part of the "Riding for Focus" program, which gave garage community mentors and middle school teachers the chance to teach kids how to ride bikes.

"Riding for Focus" uses cycling as a tool to get kids moving, increase student motivation and focus and improve student well-being.

Beacon Resource Center Executive Director Jeff Walker said, "It’s a wonderful thing to be out in nature and riding and being a part of the group cycling. It’s a really great experience, riding along other people who enjoy the sport and just being outdoors and enjoying nature."

Organizers say they plan to expand the program into other schools soon.
