(Metro Newspaper Service) TEXARKANA, Texas — The city and the Texas Department of Transportation are gearing up for a bicycle and car seat safety event Nov. 9.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at City Hall, 220 Texas Blvd.
"This event is dedicated to the safety of our youth, teaching them essential skills for safe bicycle riding, including the importance of wearing helmets and safely navigating streets both on wheels and on foot," the city said in a news release.
Adults in attendance will be reminded to check for children at intersections and turns and stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks.
Certified car seat safety technicians will be offer guidance on proper car seat installation. A limited number of free car seats will be available for families in need of replacements or new seats.
Parents are asked to accompany their children at the event.
